A university town has two weeks a year when almost everybody moves at once, and Loughborough is no exception. Late June empties the shared houses; mid-September fills them again. Those weeks are the ones that reward booking early and punish leaving it.

Halls and most landlords set release and handover days, so the whole street moves within a few days of each other. That is why slots go early and why a provisional booking in spring is worth far more than a phone call in the final week.
It is nearly always stairs
Shared houses are two and three storeys with a narrow hallway and a single front door everybody uses. There is rarely a lift and often nowhere obvious to put a van. We send more hands rather than fewer — a mattress and a desk down three flights with two people is slow and it is how things get broken.

If your housemates are moving on the same day, book it as one job. It costs less than four separate bookings and it avoids four vehicles arguing over the same stretch of kerb.
Storage over the vacation
The alternative to carting everything home in June and back in September is leaving it here, wrapped and listed, and collecting it when term starts. For anyone whose family home is a long drive away this is usually both cheaper and considerably less effort.

Student move questions
When should I book a term-end move?
As early as you can. Release days are fixed and everybody in a hall or a shared house moves within the same few days, so late June and mid-September are the two tightest weeks of our year. A slot held in April is easy; a crew found in the last week of June is not.
Is it just a van and a driver?
Two people, on anything with furniture in it. Student houses are almost always stairs, often with a shared front door and a narrow hallway, and one person plus a van is how a sofa ends up damaged or someone ends up hurt.
Can you store a room over the summer?
Yes, and it is one of the most common asks here — wrapped, listed and racked indoors over the long vacation rather than hauling everything home and back. Out again when term starts.
Do you deal with the halls or the landlord?
The access rules usually come from them and the booking usually has to come from you. Tell us the permitted window, any lift booking and where a van is allowed to stand, and we will work to it.
What if my housemates are all moving the same day?
Say so, and say it early. Several rooms out of one house on one day is a bigger job than four separate bookings and it is cheaper done as one. It also stops four vans competing for the same stretch of kerb.
